Wild Kingdom, Part 1

from my kitchen window i enjoy a scene of lush greenery and red tiled rooftops…until now.

a frighteningly large bird with bright yellow legs and claws has chosen a branch in my direct sight line on which to perch while ripping the flesh from his (or her) prey. it’s quite a show, folks. the flayed rodents which are the meal of choice are pecked away at, bit by bloody bit, until a mere carcass remains. fully sated, the bird flies off and i am left with the unappetizing gory mess strewn about the branch. even worse, when it disappears i’m flooded with dread that i’ll stumble across the remains in my backyard (not to mention the potential of live vermin).

this is not my idea of city living.
